Dear Drake,

The odds of you reading this are slim. But this isn’t for you; it’s for your fans who listen to your music. Specifically, your fans who are sexual assault victims.

I’m not going to go back and forth on my feelings on the beef or if I’m a Kendrick fan; neither is relevant here. I want to talk to you about what you said on The Heart Part 6. You (or your ghostwriters, but I’m going to assume you wrote this rap yourself), claimed the reason Kendrick Lamar claimed you were a predator was because he was molested as a child. And as a result, he was projecting.

While you completely either didn’t hear Mother I Sober or you somehow completely missed the entire fucking point of the song, what struck me is how you immediately blamed an allegation act of violation against a child as the reason why anyone would go after someone being accused of that crime.

Half-nigga, what the everloving fuck were you thinking?

I wonder why you thought that? No, really. What was your thought process? While Kendrick maintained as a child and even as an adult he was never a victim, I wonder, Aubrey, what was your angle? Why did you or your team think that was some sort of ‘gotcha!’ when it really wasn’t?

There were many things about Kendrick he has revealed you could’ve used against him. For example, Kendrick didn’t visit his dying friend in the hospital and he FaceTimed him instead. Or, he kept bragging he had antennas (people looking out for him, his ear to the street) but his little then-17-year-old sister still got pregnant.

Or how Kendrick can’t seem to stop cheating on his partner and mother of his two children, Whitney, because he was trying to cope with generational trauma?

Instead, you, Drake, aimed very low and low to the point where I wonder if your reputation will truly recover from this major faux pas.

Sexual assault, especially in Black families, can have a lasting effect for decades. It’s often the hidden secret that families don’t talk about. That one uncle that everyone warns not to be around or alone with. Sleepovers with cousins that turn into something more. The one person, usually a woman, who is in denial about everything.

Some within the community refuse to talk about it. Some are in denial about it all. Some dealt with it in other ways of addiction, Kendrick included.

I was never a fan of yours, Drake. I liked some of your songs, but never purchased an album or saw a concert. In fact, if you performed on TV, I don’t think I paid that much attention. It wasn’t that I thought you were wack, but you just weren’t my cup of tea.

Still, you never really sat well with me with how you treat Black women. Like trying to sabotage Beyonce’s house album by prematurely releasing yours, or speaking rather ill of Black women you were involved with (Serena, and Rihanna, just to name a few), or taking weird jabs at Meg Thee Stallion for being a victim of a domestic violence crime.

While I wonder exactly what age did you mature (I’m thinking it was right around the time you got famous, so teen years?), I also wonder why are Black women in particular the ire of your hatred? A lot of your fans are Black women, and you seem to hate them. Why is that?

But I digress.

It was your response about sexual assault victims – I’m pretty sure with your massive fan base, quite a few are fans of yours – that really irks me. Maybe a victim put on your music because they had a hard time that day? Maybe your music was the only thing that saved them from committing suicide? Maybe your music was the only thing that saved them from going down a horrible road of destruction?

Instead, you point fingers and laugh. Shame on you.

I hope this quiet time now is a reflection you will have about your life. It seems you are the common denominator of a lot of beefs and it can’t just be the other person is jealous of your success. You might have to stop and think about who is around you and what you are doing with your life before it spirals out of control.

And while you’re at it, apologize to the fans. They deserve that much.
